From an Idea to a Unique Figure: Discover Our New Custom Figure Space
There are figures you can find in a catalog. And there are others that, simply, don't exist yet.
This week, Veneroso Figures is launching a new space dedicated exclusively to our custom figure commissions, where we explain in much greater detail how we can turn an idea, a design, or even a photograph into a physical resin-printed and entirely hand-painted figure.
And there's something we wanted to make especially clear: you don't need to know 3D modeling or have an STL file to get started.
It all starts with an idea
The process of a custom figure doesn't begin by directly purchasing a product. It begins with a conversation.
You can contact us and tell us what you have in mind: a character, a specific pose, a version that has never had an official figure, your own design, or practically any concept you want to transform into a physical piece.
The more references we have, the better we can understand the project. These can be illustrations, photographs, screenshots, sketches, or simply an explanation of the elements you consider essential.
From there, we will work with you to assess the project's viability and determine the best way to carry it out.
What if I don't have an STL file?
This is probably one of the most common questions when someone considers commissioning a custom figure.
No problem.
To print a figure, we need a 3D model prepared for production, but that doesn't mean you have to provide it.
When the model doesn't exist yet, we work with Hokori Studio to develop the STL specifically for the project.
Before starting, the modeling work is quoted independently based on the figure's complexity: character, pose, costume, accessories, base, composition, and level of detail.
This way, you can know the cost and decide if you want to proceed before the work begins.
A figure designed with you, not just for you
One of the biggest advantages of creating the STL from scratch is precisely being able to participate in the process.
During development, you will be in contact with the Hokori Studio modeler, able to follow the evolution of the sculpture and provide feedback on the agreed aspects of the design.
The pose, expression, specific costume elements, accessories, or overall composition can be reviewed during this phase to ensure that the result truly matches the figure you imagined.
Only when the model is finished and approved will it be ready to move on to the next stage: turning it into a physical piece.
Your spot can be reserved while the model is being created
This is another point we wanted to improve within our commission system.
Our production operates through slots or spaces, as each figure requires many hours of printing, preparation, assembly, and manual painting.
If your project needs a custom STL, you don't have to wait for all the modeling to finish before joining the end of the queue.
Once we have spoken with you, confirmed the project's viability, and defined the necessary work, you can reserve your Custom Figure slot.
While the STL is being developed, your position within our production schedule is already saved.
When the model is finished and approved, it will be ready to enter production when your turn arrives.
What if I already have my own STL?
Then the process is even simpler.
You can send us the file before booking so we can review it and check aspects such as part breakdown, fit, stability, scale, and its viability for resin printing.
If the file is properly prepared, you don't need to contract any modeling service.
After defining the size and finish of the figure with you, you can reserve your slot and wait for your production turn.
That is:
If you have an STL: review → slot reservation → printing and painting.
If you don't have an STL: idea → modeling quote → slot reservation → STL creation and approval → printing and painting.
Two different paths to reach the same destination: a figure created specifically for you.
From a digital file to a hand-painted piece
When it's production turn, our work in the workshop begins.
We prepare the files for printing, produce the different resin parts, assemble and prepare the surfaces, and finally, hand-paint each part following the defined finish for the project.
This is not mass production or a factory-painted figure.
Each commission individually passes through our workshop and receives the same artisan process as the rest of Veneroso Figures' pieces.
Why have we created this new section?
We wanted to make commissioning a custom figure much easier to understand from the start.
We know that terms like STL, 3D printing, scale, part breakdown, or digital modeling can be confusing if you've never commissioned a piece of this type.
That's why we have gathered the entire process in a single space on our website, including the differences between providing your own STL or creating one from scratch, how production reservation works, and a frequently asked questions section with the most common queries.
The idea is simple: you don't have to know how to turn an idea into a figure. That's what we're here for.
Do you have a figure in mind?
You don't need to have everything figured out before writing to us.
If you've been looking for a figure that doesn't exist, have your own design that you'd like to turn into a physical piece, or simply want to know if an idea would be possible, tell us about it.
We will study the project with you and explain what we need, if an STL needs to be developed, and what the next steps would be.
Your idea could be the beginning of a piece that doesn't exist anywhere else.
